For over seventy-five years Salisbury has been a Sister City. In 1932, we began a strong and ongoing relationship with Salisbury, England as a part of our bicentennial celebration. Many times over the past three generations we have sent and received delegations to the city which gave us our name.

In 1999 we began an informal relationship with Tartu, Estonia as a part of a Maryland initiative to aid countries formerly part of the Soviet Union. These relationships have economic, cultural and global positive implications. Most directly affected have been students who have traveled to these cities to broaden their international understanding and education. This past year, students from the City visited Dalian, China after our local Sister Cities initiated discussions with the Wicomico County Board of Education to integrate Chinese language and culture into our local curriculum.

In 2006, we formalized our relationships with Tartu and Salisbury, England through participation in Sister Cities International (SCI). SCI is dedicated to increasing global cooperation at the local level. Our local affiliation, Sister Cities Association of Salisbury/Wicomico County, has a Board of Directors which meets monthly. The Board has three subcommittees: Cultural, Business and Education.

We have a tremendous opportunity to make a significant investment in this community's future with a relatively modest amount of money. Please, feel free to step forward and join in the individuals and groups which are part of Sister Cities.

If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation in support of the Sister Cities Association of Salisbury/Wicomico County please make it payable to: Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 510, Salisbury, MD 21803-0510.
